For Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, it was "love at first sight" in true sense when he first met Anjali,
daughter of the well-known industrialist Ashok Mehta, in 1990 at the age of 17.
Sachin was returning from his first international tour and Anjali was at the airport to receive her mother.
They looked at each other and the love story began.
Later, Sachin and Anjali met at a common friend’s place and got an opportunity to explore each other. Anjali,
a doctor by profession who didn’t know much about cricket, started dating Sachin and attending cricket matches.
Even Sachin had to wear a fake beard and moustache to watch movies with Anjali in order to avoid the crowd in Mumbai's film theatres.Later,
After five years of courtship, Sachin and Anjali (six years elder than him) tied the knot on May 24, 1995
After their marriage, Anjali left her career of a successful doctor and started taking care of their two children -
Sara and Arjun. Once she said: “I could not be married to Sachin and also have a full-time career.
It wasn't possible because he depends on me for almost everything. It was my decision.
With Sachin not around and me with two kids at home, it wouldn't have been possible.
I took a decision and I have never, ever regretted it."
Sachin, too, recognised the sacrifices made by Anjali.
In his autobiography 'Playing It My Way', the little master confessed:
"I confided in Anjali that I feared there was nothing more that I could do to stem the tide of defeats.
Anjali, as usual, managed to put things in perspective and assured me that things would surely get better in the months to come.”
